Organic Baby Food

So with some encouragement from my sister Christina... I have dove into making Sophia organic baby foods. And it really is doable! Here is my process:

1. Peel your fruit or vegetable... I am starting with pears, bananas, and sweet potatoes. You only need 2 or 3 depending on size to make quite a bit.

2. Cut up the fruit or veggie into smaller pieces and put in your steamer:

3. Steam for 11 minutes or so
4. Put the steamed stuff in my Magic Bullet (or food processor- I just don't have one). Now before blending you can add a half ounce of breastmilk, formula milk, or a little flax oil Mckmama style.
5. Pour into ice cube trays.

6. Pop out the cubes and put into freezer bags for storage. Just thaw what you need to feed your baby!

It is fresh and organic and so good for baby. I had been buying the organic gerber, but the shelf life on that stuff can be ten months old! And quite expensive. Do you all do this too??

I can't believe it, but I also ordered an all in one diaper from Three Monkeys on ebay. They are similar to Bum Genious which everyone seems to say is the best one; but 1/2 the price. And lots of cute fabrics too. We will see how it works.

BabyWearin'

Did you know November 12-18 is International Babywearing Week! I love slings... I had a Kangaroo blue fleece one for Luke; and now a Hotsling for Sophia. Took her to the beach at one week old:
I like using my sling in the grocery store, and on walks. Everyone thinks it is so cute... you get a lot of oooos and aaaah's. See Adventures in Babyslinging and Nonny and Boo to meet more moms and enter the sling giveaway!

So Wear your baby! They love to be by mama :) Sophia is really mama's girl now with us spending all our time together. She will realize quickly if I leave her and gets this bottom lip stuck out and starts crying like 'where is my momma!". Makes me feel very loved Sweeters.

Two Weeks In...

We reached two weeks old in my little one's life. Everything is going pretty well! We had a rough start more with Luke-- disobeying everything I said and being really bad. But with some discipline and new time out chair he seems to be coming around to his normal self. Poor guy was used to being the center of attention I know.

Sophia had her first real bath today... she did quite well. I thought she would scream b/c she hates being naked, and when her diaper is wet or dirty. But she did well... just a little crying until I took her out. My mom bought her a beautiful pottery barn crib set. I love it so much-- thanks mom! She doesn't like lying flat on her back though. I keep putting her in each day and hope she gets more used to it. Right now she sleeps in the swing (but not swinging) and that is where she rests the best.

It is different with two... two baths, two diapers (hopefully not too much longer), twice as long it seems to get out of the house and in the car :) I give myself 20-30 min to get loaded up now b/c inevitably one is crying or pooped!

My mom is her until tuesday; she has been such a help with kitchen cleaning and holding the baby at night. I will be sad to see her go! And my niece Kaela too. That extra set of hands is so helpful. Will post more pics when I get my camera to download :)

On Thursday

Went to my midwife appt. yesterday. Was 2 cm dialted but no early signs of labor :( So they scheduled for me to come in thursday morning to be induced. They start with the medicine on the cervix, which hopefully will do the trick and send me into labor. It worked with Luke... but that was 1o days late and this is 2 days early. So I am praying; that everything goes smoothly and our little girl is born safely and healthy!

Baby Update

After my appt. tuesday they wanted to do an ultrasound b/c my belly was measuring a couple weeks small... small? I said. I feel big. So I did the ultrasound yesterday afternoon. She is doing well in there, weighing around 6 lbs. 6 oz. now. So she is just little like Luke was. Can't wait for her to come out. Nervous about the labor, but if I did it once I can do it again, right? So now we play the waiting game... 10 days to go?

5 Weeks

So sunday will mark 5 weeks to my due date. At my midwife appt. on monday I found out that they do not let gestational diabetics go past their due date :( Which I was disturbed about because Luke was 10 days late. I go el natural... so I really do not want to have to be induced. So I am praying for an early or on time delivery, and my midwife said I could start this herbal supplement called 5W on sunday. It is a mixture of herbs and is supposed to get you ready for delivery. I have heard great things about it from my childbirth educator and midwife. So if you are pregnant... order some at www.naturessunshine.com. You can take it your last 5 weeks (thus the name 5W). Sign me up for a speedier labor!

Otherwise I am doing well. Work and real estate closings are keeping me quite busy. And we are renovating my nephews new townhouse in a week- everything is looking great over there. Working with Luke on potty training... thanks to my friend Jennifer's idea he went in the potty yesterday for "TWO starbursts". Yay! Two of our rental properties turned over this week and all the details have gone pretty smoothly. And we may have found someone to buy our boat... which then I can maybe get my van!

Dreaming of Baby

I bought baby's first couple of outfits. I didn't realize how heart warmed I would feel just browsing through all the pink, yellow, and flowery clothes. I loved it. The crib is in Luke's room with a queen bed- they will share a room for a while. So I thought I would try to find a new crib bedding and bumper set that had a bit of light green in it like the wall color. Mom- that is your cue to start looking :) You're so much better at that stuff than I am. Oh and I found my ultimate baby wish thing- this stroller called Bugaboo. It is so cool but so expensive. If I start saving and selling stuff now maybe I can get a pink one by June :)

The News is In!

We had our ultrasound yesterday... and it's a girl :) I had a feeling for some reason. A lot of people had said it was a girl, plus I was SOO sick this time at the beginning. I am very excited. After Luke I said I thought I would have all boys, but then when I was pregnant and he was so crazy- I thought I cannot have another crazy boy (ha ha). My dad had said in Florida it was going to be a sweet southern bell. You were right dad! Now all we need is a name. Any ideas?

She moved all around, and had her ankles crossed. And we saw some hiccups. All the measurements looked good and I was so thankful. I think she has Lukey's same head shape :)

Here is the belly :) Much more to come I am sure.
